A shocking video has surfaced showing the moment a 59-year-old man raised a gun and opened fire at a sanitation worker in the Athens district of Gyzi. The footage, published by CNN Greece, captures the worker climbing onto a garbage truck when the suspect appears from behind a red car, wearing a blue shirt.
The man points his gun at the worker from a distance. At first, the weapon jams, but the shooter reloads and then fires- narrowly missing the sanitation employee.
Shooting in broad daylight
The Gyzi shooting incident took place on Monday, 8 September 2025, in a narrow street of the neighbourhood. The gunfire caused panic among both municipal workers and passers-by.
When questioned, the 59-year-old claimed he was disturbed by the noise of the garbage truck.
Weapons cache found at home
Police later searched the suspect’s residence and discovered an arsenal of weapons, including:
- a revolver with four cartridges
- a pistol
- three knives
- two brass knuckles
- 14 bullets
- two full-face masks
The suspect was taken into custody and referred to the public prosecutor.
The Gyzi shooting incident has drawn widespread concern over public safety and escalating acts of violence in urban areas.
