Government to enforce law on football club debts

The President of the Republic’s instructions regarding football clubs’ and companies’ debts to the state are to enforce the law, stated Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou on Proino Dromologio.

He emphasised that the Government aims to uphold equality and fairness. Mr Antoniou noted that efforts are being made to ensure the state collects the owed amounts while also facilitating clubs – in the same way as other companies – to repay their debts. “There will be no discrimination,” Mr Antoniou stressed.

Meanwhile, referring to the presence of American technocrats at the “Andreas Papandreou” airbase in Paphos, Mr Antoniou stated that their aim is to prepare a study for infrastructure upgrades. He added that they would return with a specific proposal on whether they would cover part or the entirety of the upgrade costs.

At the same time, the Deputy Government Spokesperson reiterated that the bases would remain an integral part of Cypriot territory, and anyone wishing to use them must obtain permission and approval from the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.

“Everything else being said has no relation to reality,” Yiannis Antoniou concluded.
