Government announces health sector projects worth €128 million

Date:

The government announced on Friday its decisions over projects in the health sector, worth 128 million euros, to be implemented in all districts, until 2027 aiming at the qualitative upgrading of the services provided, as well as the radical improvement of the infrastructure of public hospitals. The decisions were announced by Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, at the Presidential Palace.

In his statements, after the meeting held under the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, with the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO), in the presence of the Minister of Health, Michael Damianos, with the exclusive object of discussing the development plan of the Organisation, Letymbiotis said that “the health sector, the qualitative upgrading of the services provided and the radical improvement of the infrastructure of public hospitals is prioritized by the Government as a fundamental pillar of policy”, noting that “the timely, faithful completion of infrastructure projects, especially in the health sector is a priority, but also an obvious obligation of the state.”

According to the Government Spokesman, “the importance that the Government attaches to the implementation of such projects, which are included as actions in the government programme, was extensively discussed at today’s meeting under President Christodoulides”, adding that “within this framework, they examined the progress of the implementation of the entire development plan, which is part of the SHSO’s strategic plan, and discussed ways to accelerate the completion of the most important projects.”

As Letymbiotis said, in the period from 2023 to 2027 a total of 128.6 million euros worth of projects will be implemented, of which 96.6 million euros will be invested by the state, while the remaining 32 million euros will be financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RSP).

He also said that “the upgrading of Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E) in all districts is a priority” and that “in this direction it was decided to substantially accelerate the completion and implementation of these projects”.

“The aim”, he added, “is that by June 2026 all the Accident and Emergency Departments will be modernised, providing upgraded quality health services.”

The Government Spokesperson said that other projects are in the process of implementation, based on the relevant planning, which include renovation of patient rooms, energy upgrades of buildings and installation of photovoltaic systems, creation of day care units, renovation of reception and catering areas for patients and visitors.

He stressed that the President of the Republic, while noting the importance of the health sector, asked for “strict adherence to the timetables and continuous information on the progress of works.”
