Google has launched an interactive Doodle to celebrate curling as the countdown to the Winter Olympics 2026 continues. The Doodle blends winter sports with Italian cultural elements and references to the Northern Italian host regions, giving users an engaging way to explore the upcoming global sporting event.
The Milano Cortina Winter Olympics will run from 6 to 22 February 2026. Organisers will host events across Northern Italy, with Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo acting as the main hubs, alongside venues in Valtellina, Val di Fiemme and Anterselva.
What is curling?
Fans often describe curling as “chess on ice” because of its strategic depth. Teams slide polished granite stones across the ice towards a circular target known as the house.
Players sweep the ice in front of the stone to influence its speed and direction. The sport began in 16th-century Scotland, where communities played it on frozen ponds. Curling debuted at the Olympic Games in Chamonix in 1924 and became a permanent Olympic sport in 1998.
Cortina d’Ampezzo will host the curling events during the Winter Olympics 2026.
