Countries across the world, including several Arab and Muslim states, have welcomed the peace plan unveiled on Monday by US President Donald Trump, aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
Arab and Muslim states
Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan praised “the role of the American president and his sincere efforts to end the war in Gaza.” They also confirmed their willingness to work “positively and constructively” with the US and other parties to finalise and implement the agreement.
Europe
European Council President António Costa urged all sides “to seize this moment to give peace a real chance,” adding that “the situation in Gaza is unbearable. Hostilities must stop and all hostages must be released immediately.”
French President Emmanuel Macron praised Trump’s commitment to ending the war and freeing hostages, stressing that Hamas “has no choice but to immediately release all hostages and follow this plan.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said London “strongly supports” Trump’s efforts to end hostilities, secure hostage releases and ensure urgent humanitarian aid reaches Gaza.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government described the plan as “ambitious” and “a turning point” for stabilisation, reconstruction and development in Gaza, urging all sides to accept it.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said: “Finally, Israelis and Palestinians can hope this war will end soon. This opportunity must not be lost. Hamas must seize it. I urge all who can influence Hamas to do so now.”
Former UK prime minister Tony Blair, expected to play a key role on a committee overseeing the transition period in Gaza, hailed the Trump plan as “bold and intelligent,” saying it offers “the best chance to end the war” that has raged for two years.
Palestinian reactions
The Palestinian Authority welcomed Trump’s “sincere and decisive efforts,” expressing “confidence in the American president’s ability to find the path to peace.”
By contrast, Palestinian Islamic Jihad condemned the plan as “a recipe for continuing aggression against the Palestinian people and igniting the region,” accusing Israel of trying to impose through the US what it failed to achieve through war.
According to Al Jazeera, citing diplomatic sources, Qatar and Egypt have already delivered Trump’s plan to Hamas negotiators, who said they would study it carefully.
