Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will visit Cyprus on Sunday in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The visit is expected to focus on upgrading cooperation through concrete political and operational initiatives.
Plans for strategic partnership
Speaking to journalists at the Presidential Palace, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said discussions had already begun following a previous meeting between President Nikos Christodoulides and Meloni.
According to Letymbiotis, both sides had agreed to start work on a joint partnership document aimed at formalising closer cooperation.
The spokesman said conditions are now in place for progress to be reflected in a more specific political and operational framework.
The Meloni visit is expected to further reinforce ties between Cyprus and Italy on regional, European and strategic matters.
Strengthening bilateral cooperation
Cyprus and Italy maintain close cooperation within the European Union and on issues related to the Eastern Mediterranean, energy and migration.
Further details regarding meetings and agreements expected during the visit are likely to be announced in the coming days.
