Another 47 lorries carrying humanitarian aid crossed into Gaza on Sunday. During the two-month fragile ceasefire, the World Food Programme has distributed over one million aid parcels, reaching roughly half the enclave’s population through 59 distribution points.
Many recipients complain that parcels now contain mainly flour, beans and lentils. Previously the same programme included tinned tuna, sardines and jam.
“My daughters are malnourished and I don’t know what to do for them,” one mother told reporters after collecting aid. Some families in Gaza have received no assistance at all for six months.
Border bottlenecks persist Israeli forces continue rigorous inspections at the crossings, deciding which aid organisations may enter and what supplies they may bring.
According to the United Nations, the delays have left 90,000 tonnes of aid stuck at the borders, unable to reach those in greatest need.
