Fugitive accused for kidnapping, arrested at Paphos airport

Date:

A Polish fugitive was arrested at Paphos airport on Tuesday upon his arrival from another European country, after police discovered he was wanted in connection with a kidnapping case.

According to a statement by the Cyprus Police, the 36-year-old man was taken into custody following a passport check, which revealed an active European arrest warrant issued by the Polish authorities.

He is wanted in Poland to serve a one-year prison sentence imposed in October 2020, related to offences of kidnapping and unlawful detention, both committed in Poland.

The arrest occurred shortly before 2:30pm on Tuesday, as the suspect arrived at the arrivals area of Paphos airport. During passport control, an officer identified the individual as a wanted person. He was immediately arrested under the European warrant and placed in custody pending the start of judicial proceedings for his extradition to Poland.

The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is continuing its investigation.
