Four people are in hospital- two at Nicosia General Hospital and two at Larnaca General Hospital- following a motorbike crash between two vehicles in Ayia Napa on Monday night.
According to a police statement, the crash occurred at around 8:20pm on Monday, 3 November. A 33-year-old man was riding a large-capacity motorcycle from Protaras towards Ayia Napa, with a 22-year-old passenger. Under circumstances still under investigation, his motorcycle appears to have collided with a second motorcycle driven by a 17-year-old with a 19-year-old passenger, travelling in the opposite direction.
All four riders were seriously injured and transported to hospital by ambulance.
The 33-year-old driver suffered a fractured left arm, head injuries and a skull fracture, and is being treated in the surgical ward of Nicosia General Hospital in serious condition. His 22-year-old passenger sustained multiple injuries, including a pneumothorax and subarachnoid haemorrhage. He is intubated in the hospital’s intensive care unit, where his condition is described as critical.
The 17-year-old rider of the second motorbike suffered an open fracture of the left femur and a fracture of the left arm. He underwent surgery and is now in the ICU at Larnaca General Hospital. The 19-year-old passenger of the same motorbike has a brain haemorrhage, is intubated, and also being treated in the Larnaca ICU.
Both motorbikes were completely destroyed in the crash.
Police are appealing to anyone with information about the circumstances of the collision to contact the Ayia Napa Police Station, the Famagusta Traffic Department, or their nearest police station. The investigation continues under the Famagusta Traffic Department in cooperation with the Ayia Napa Police Station.
