New cases reported
The number of infected livestock units in Cyprus has risen to 59 after five more positive units were identified in Larnaca and Nicosia, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. Epidemiological sampling across all districts, based on statistical models, concluded yesterday with negative results so far.
Of the five new infected units, three were located in Dromolaxia-Meneou and two in Geri, bringing the total to 53 in Larnaca and six in Nicosia. The cases were found in small holdings with few animals, which is expected given their location within infected zones. Tracing and sampling in affected areas continue.
Vaccination progress
The Ministry reported that the second phase of vaccinations has reached 64% for cattle and 35% for goats and sheep, while 73% of pig units within the protection and surveillance zone have been vaccinated.
Compensation for farmers
Compensation payments for milk destroyed from infected units have been processed today, with amounts expected to appear in farmers’ accounts within the week. The Ministry emphasised its commitment to supporting affected livestock producers while containing the outbreak.
