Prime Video unveiled the first photo of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. Announced in September as star of the Tomb Raider TV series, she now dons the archaeologist’s signature green tank top and brown shorts. This nods to the classic PlayStation games.
Production has begun. Turner, who grew up in Warwickshire, called the role “massive shoes to fill” after Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
Cast and creative team
Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and X-Men’s Jean Grey lead. Sigourney Weaver (Alien), Jason Isaacs (White Lotus), and Celia Imrie (Celebrity Traitors) co-star.
Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge penned the script.
Tomb Raider legacy
The series adapts the 1996 hit from UK’s Core Design. Lara Croft captivated as a rare female gaming icon, gracing covers worldwide.
Crystal Dynamics rebooted it in 2013 with realistic look and deeper character. Recent Game Awards announced two games: remade original adventure and new Northern India story.
Video game adaptations boom
Tomb Raider joins Prime Video successes like Fallout’s second series. Ryan Hurst (Walking Dead) leads upcoming God of War as Kratos.
Adaptations boost original games.
