The first China-Cyprus bilateral training seminar on “China-Cyprus: Modern Urban Development and Management” took place in Beijing and Guangzhou.
Twenty-eight Cypriot local government officials and staff participated, organised by the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus and the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, with implementation by the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) under China’s Ministry of Commerce.
Participants included Polis Chrysochous Mayor Yiottis Papachristofis, Akamas Mayor Marinos Lambrou, Polis Chrysochous Municipal Secretary Doxa Oikonomidou and Akamas Deputy Municipal Secretary Pantelis Pantelides.
The programme featured lectures from Chinese experts and officials, site visits to landmarks, and meetings with local stakeholders on sustainable urban development, waste management and recycling, renewable energy production, archaeological protection and enhancement, and innovation/upgrading infrastructure in technology and cultural centres.
This inaugural China Cyprus local government seminar strengthened Cypriot officials’ knowledge, aiming to deliver better services to citizens and elevate the institution overall.
