Firecracker hits car in Nicosia, damages nearby house

Police are investigating a case of attempted property destruction involving explosives after a car exploded in Nicosia early Thursday morning.

Explosion damages vehicle and nearby home

According to police reports, at around 1:10 a.m., a 50-year-old man’s car exploded while parked outside his residence in the Nicosia district.

Officers, including a bomb disposal expert, examined the scene and confirmed that a factory-made firecracker had been placed inside the car and detonated. The blast caused significant damage to the car and also broke windows in a neighbouring home.

Investigation underway

The Nicosia CID is handling the investigation to determine the circumstances and identify those responsible for the incident.
