Fire Service warns public about high risk of fire outbreaks

Date:

The Cyprus Fire Service has urged people to exercise caution and avoid activities that could potentially cause a fire citing forecasts for a dry period until March 21, which will increase the risk of fires breaking out and spreading.

In a press release today, the Fire Service informs the public that according to the Department of Meteorology’s forecast for a particularly dry period for the eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus until March 21, 2025, the risk of fires breaking out and spreading will be increased.

The Fire Service is appealing to the public to be particularly careful, avoiding activities and actions that could potentially cause a fire.

People are reminded that burning grass, debris and rubbish is prohibited and that lighting a fire anywhere is prohibited except for the preparation of food within specifically permitted and designated areas.

The public is also reminded to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling 112 or 1407.
