Tension still hangs over Vorizia, three weeks after the shooting that killed two people and shocked the village. The dispute between the two families shows no sign of easing. Police forces remain in the village to prevent new clashes, yet tensions keep rising.
On Sunday morning, 23 November, a new incident unfolded, increasing the volatility. This time, the confrontation happened inside the village cemetery. Women from both families took part.
According to reports, relatives of 39-year-old Fanouris Kargakis and 56-year-old Evangelia Fragkiadaki went to the cemetery to tend to their graves. Tempers flared again there. The sister of Evangelia Fragkiadaki, who was wounded during the double murder, says members of the other family threatened her. The confrontation caused unrest in the cemetery and alarmed locals.
Police remain on heightened alert. Authorities expect the two families to keep coming face-to-face in the coming weeks, especially every Sunday during church and cemetery visits. They fear another serious incident if tensions do not ease.
