The Attorney General has instructed the criminal prosecution of the 37-year-old father in connection with the toddler death case in Paphos, following a review and assessment of all the evidence gathered during the police investigation.
According to Cyprus Police, the prosecution concerns the offence of causing death through a reckless, negligent or dangerous act under the relevant provisions of the Criminal Code.
Case to be filed in court
The 37-year-old is expected to appear before the Paphos District Court on Tuesday, where the case will be formally filed.
The prosecution is also expected to request strict bail conditions to ensure the defendant’s presence at all future court hearings.
Detention order expires
The father’s detention order expires today.
According to information obtained by the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the decision to prosecute is reportedly linked to the findings of toxicology tests carried out as part of the investigation.
