Fatal crash in Frenaros: Post-mortem confirms severity of collision

According to post-mortem examinations conducted today at Nicosia General Hospital, the deaths of the three young individuals who lost their lives in yesterday’s fatal accident on the Deryneia–Frenaros road were caused by multiple injuries, as stated by the spokesperson of the Famagusta Police Directorate, Andreas Constantinou, to CNA.

Mr Constantinou reported that the 44-year-old driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, who was arrested yesterday under a court warrant, was questioned in writing today and subsequently released without being formally charged.

As Mr Constantinou explained, “This morning, the legally mandated post-mortem examinations on the bodies of the three young victims were conducted at Nicosia General Hospital. The procedure, which began at 8:30 AM and was carried out by forensic examiner Dr Nikolaos Charalambous, was completed around 1:00 PM. According to the findings, the deaths of the three were caused by multiple injuries sustained during the road accident.”

Regarding the 44-year-old driver of the second vehicle involved in the collision, who had been arrested yesterday under a court warrant, Mr Constantinou stated that “he was questioned in writing today and was subsequently released from custody without being formally charged.”

It is noted that the results of both the drug test and alcohol test to which the 44-year-old was subjected yesterday were negative. Blood was also drawn from the 18-year-old driver of the vehicle in which the young victims were passengers, and the sample will be sent for testing.

The causes of the accident are being investigated by the Famagusta Traffic Police.
