Tourism in Famagusta is showing encouraging signs for the upcoming summer season, according to Panagiotis Konstantinou, President of the Famagusta Hoteliers Association. He highlighted strong booking flows from all key markets that favour the area.
Positive outlook for summer 2026
Konstantinou told CNA that although the post-Christmas period is traditionally slow for Famagusta, early bookings suggest a promising start to the new summer season in April, as most hotels in the area will reopen. “Messages are encouraging so far, with good booking flows from the UK, Poland, Israel, the Nordic countries, and Central Europe,” he said.
Participation in international tourism fairs
The association will attend tourism fairs in Belgrade and Berlin to promote Famagusta. From 19–22 February, a delegation will take part in the Belgrade fair, alongside the Famagusta Tourism Development and Promotion Company and local hoteliers.
The ITB Berlin fair, from 3–5 March, will see wider participation, including most local hoteliers, ETAP Famagusta, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, the municipalities of Paralimni-Deryneia and Ayia Napa, Bank of Cyprus, and Hermes Airports.
Targeted marketing campaigns
Konstantinou confirmed the continuation of a targeted digital marketing campaign aimed at key and secondary markets. “Our main target markets include the UK, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Hungary, Switzerland, and France. The results over the last two years have been very encouraging, which is why we continue this promotional effort,” he said.
Middle East markets approached with caution
While the association remains interested in attracting tourists from Middle Eastern countries due to proximity and potential, Konstantinou noted that current tensions in Iran make promotion to these markets challenging. “For now, we are cautious on this front,” he added.
Winter season performance and extending the tourism period
Konstantinou noted that a few hotels remained operational during winter months, with bookings made online or through travel agents. Positive results for the 2025–2026 winter season were recorded, particularly in October and November, aided by good weather conditions and active hotels. The association aims to strengthen bookings in November and March, while also targeting December, January, and February.
