Explosion hits Tehran Al-Quds Day rally

A deadly blast struck Ferdowsi Square in Tehran on Friday during the annual Al-Quds Day march, killing one woman from shrapnel, according to Iranian state media. Thousands of Iranians were participating in rallies across the capital, demonstrating support for Palestine despite ongoing US and Israeli attacks in the region.

The cause of the explosion is not yet clear, though it occurred shortly after Israel warned people to clear the area ahead of a planned strike. Al Jazeera Arabic reported an airstrike near the gathering, but casualty details remain limited.

Demonstrators voice solidarity with Palestinians

Crowds carried Iranian flags and images of Palestinian fighters, chanting slogans such as “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.” Officials, including Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and ministers for roads and sports, were also present. Larijani stated that Israel targeted the rallies out of fear and insisted that US leadership underestimated the determination of the Iranian people.

Al-Quds Day is observed annually on the last Friday of Ramadan to express support for Palestine and oppose Israeli occupation. Despite the ongoing attacks, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian urged citizens to participate in the marches, encouraging larger turnout than ever before.
