Ex-president George Vasileiou hospitalised in serious condition

Former Cyprus President Giorgos Vasileiou has been receiving treatment at Nicosia General Hospital since Epiphany Day, January 6, 2026. OKYpY Press Spokesman Charalambos Charilaou confirmed the 94-year-old leader’s admission in statements to RIK radio on January 8. Vasileiou, who served as President from 1988 to 1993, remains under close monitoring by his attending physicians.

Medical condition update

Charilaou stated Vasileiou receives all appropriate medical care amid a serious health condition as assessed by doctors. Speaking on RIK’s Third Programme and responding to questions, he emphasized ongoing proper treatment.
