Eurostat: Higher employment for female graduates in Cyprus

Cyprus recorded a employment rate of 82.3% among recent graduates aged 20 to 34 in 2025, remaining close to the European Union average, according to figures published by Eurostat on Monday.

The graduate employment rate in Cyprus stood at 82.3%, with employment among men reaching 81.3% and among women 83.3%.

EU employment rate continues to rise

Across the European Union, the employment rate of young people who had recently completed upper secondary or tertiary education reached 83.0% in 2025, compared with 82.3% in 2024.

According to Eurostat, the EU-wide graduate employment rate has increased by 7.5 percentage points since 2014.

Graduates of tertiary education recorded stronger labour market outcomes, with an employment rate of 87.0%, compared with 77.2% for those with a medium level of education.

Malta, Germany and Netherlands lead rankings

The highest employment rates among recent graduates were recorded in Malta (91.0%), Germany (90.6%) and the Netherlands (90.1%).

At the other end of the scale, the lowest rates were reported in Greece (62.4%), Italy (71.8%) and Romania (72.7%).

Women outperform men in Cyprus

Eurostat noted that, across the EU, male graduates recorded a higher employment rate (84.4%) than female graduates (81.5%).

However, Cyprus was among a number of member states where women outperformed men in the labour market. Female graduates in Cyprus recorded an employment rate of 83.3%, compared with 81.3% for males.

The largest gender gaps in favour of women were recorded in Greece (11.8 percentage points), Estonia (5.0 points) and Finland (4.4 points).

The figures highlight Cyprus’ strong labour market performance for recent graduates, with the country remaining closely aligned with the overall EU graduate employment trend.
