Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan discussed the details of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s upcoming 2026 visit to Cairo, where he is expected to chair the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
The two ministers held their talks on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg. They also reviewed how to implement the decisions that emerged from the recent Joint Planning Group meeting in Ankara.
During their discussions, Abdelatty and Fidan exchanged views on developments in the Gaza Strip. They also highlighted Egypt’s efforts to reinforce the Sharm el-Sheikh peace agreement and support Gaza’s reconstruction.
Their agenda extended to a range of regional issues of shared concern, reflecting both countries’ intention to coordinate policies and initiatives that promote stability, peace, and development across the wider Middle East.
President Erdoğan’s upcoming visit to Cairo signals an upgraded bilateral dialogue and a push to build strategic cooperation at a time when the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East face complex security and energy challenges. The meeting on the G20 sidelines set the groundwork for closer coordination, boosting the prospects of a more active Turkish diplomacy with Cairo.
