The transport ministry has announced the fourth call for subsidies under the national plan to promote electromobility, introducing major changes to the way electric vehicle grants in Cyprus are verified and allocated.
According to the government website, €5.6 million is available to support clean, modern and accessible transport. The new call differs from previous rounds in its procedures, aiming for simpler steps, greater transparency and faster absorption of available funds.
Following sustained consultation with EU authorities, the verification mechanism of the scheme has been reformed. The key changes include:
• the abolition of the lengthy grant-payment mechanism,
• the introduction of a new verification system completed through the registration of the vehicle,
• accelerated processes to reduce inconvenience for beneficiaries, and
• ensuring all registrations are completed by 30 June 2026, enabling full use of the allocated budget.
Application period
Angelos Sofokleous, officer at the Department of Road Transport, told Sigma’s Protoselido that 520 applications are available. Applications can be submitted from Friday 5 December at 9am until Tuesday 9 December at 9am.
If the number of applications exceeds 520, an electronic lottery will take place. All applicants who submit within the timeframe will be included, and will receive a priority number based on the lottery results.
The electronic draw will be held on 9 December 2025, using a system designed for fairness and full transparency, in the presence of media representatives.
Preliminary approval and eight-day deadline
Those selected in the draw will receive preliminary approval. They will then have eight working days to upload their vehicle order, or in the case of used vehicles, to send the order via email.
Debt checks
To participate in the scheme, applicants must have no outstanding debts to the Tax Department or Social Insurance. A check will take place before preliminary approval is issued. Applicants with debts will be notified and given eight days to settle or arrange repayment. Those who do not comply will be automatically excluded, and their place will pass to the next person on the waiting list.
