Police in Greece were stunned on Monday evening after a chase involving an eight-year-old boy behind the wheel of a car.
At around 7:10pm on Monday, 28 June, an Immediate Action patrol spotted a car without licence plates at the junction of Filis and Eleftherias streets in Ano Liosia, Attica. Officers signalled the driver to stop for inspection.
Instead, the driver ignored the order and sped away. Moments later, at the junction of Scholariou and Gemistou streets, the car lost control and crashed into the garage door of a residence.
When officers approached the vehicle, they were shocked to discover the driver was an eight-year-old boy. Fortunately, the child was unharmed in the crash.
Police later located the boy’s 27-year-old mother, who was arrested for neglect of a minor. She was subsequently released by verbal order of the prosecutor.
The incident remains under investigation, but the eight-year-old police chase in Greece has raised concerns over child supervision and road safety.
