Eight-day remand for suspect in Larnaca attempted abduction

Larnaca District Court on Monday 8 December 2025 issued an eight-day remand order against a 42-year-old man arrested the previous afternoon at Paphos airport.

Police executed an outstanding warrant linked to the attempted abduction of a 51-year-old former Ukrainian official on 20 November in Larnaca.

The suspect remained silent during questioning at Larnaca CID on Sunday.

A 44-year-old Russian national remains wanted in connection with the same case.

Details of the incident

Around 19:20 on 20 November, three masked men attacked the 51-year-old victim and a 72-year-old man outside the victim’s Larnaca home. The attackers tried to force the 51-year-old into a van.

Both victims fought back, forcing the assailants to flee on foot and abandon the vehicle.

Police found the van carried false plates belonging to another vehicle. Inside they recovered an empty-magazine pistol and other evidence.

The victims suffered minor injuries.

Charges under investigation include conspiracy to commit a felony, attempted abduction, illegal possession of a firearm, assault causing actual bodily harm and theft.
