Police have intensified patrols and inspections to prevent the lighting of Easter bonfires, firecracker use and youth delinquency, with operations continuing throughout the day and overnight.
Officers responded to multiple incidents involving fires and firecrackers, while also identifying and removing materials gathered for bonfires in several areas.
Bonfire materials removed across districts
During coordinated operations, police located piles of wood intended for Easter bonfires, along with items such as chairs, sofas and rubbish bins.
In Nicosia and Limassol, part of the materials was removed with the assistance of local authority crews, while further collections are expected to continue in cooperation with municipalities.
No offences found during youth checks
Police carried out checks in areas where young people had gathered for bonfires and firecracker use.
A number of youths were inspected, however no offences were recorded during these checks.
Fire service called to extinguish fires
In several incidents involving fires in open areas, police called in the Fire Service to extinguish the flames and prevent further risk.
Heightened patrols to continue
Police confirmed that increased patrols and targeted actions will continue across all districts, aiming to prevent dangerous behaviour and enhance public safety.
Authorities are also urging the public to act responsibly and cooperate with relevant services.
