Funding allocated to support farmers
Cyprus has approved a €7,693,500 farmer compensation package to support producers affected by adverse weather conditions in 2024 and 2025, the Agriculture Ministry announced on Friday.
The proposal, approved on March 18, aims to provide direct financial relief while helping sustain activity in the agricultural sector.
Over 1,500 beneficiaries included
The farmer compensation scheme will cover up to 1,528 beneficiaries whose crops and fixed assets were damaged. Affected products include potatoes, carobs, vegetables, deciduous trees and other crops impacted by extreme weather conditions.
Breakdown of financial support
The majority of the funding, €7,163,000, will be distributed under the national framework for adverse climate phenomena.
An additional €330,500 will be granted through de minimis aid for crops lacking sufficient statistical data, while €200,000 will come from the national disaster fund.
Payment framework and limits
The compensation will be administered through the agricultural production protection and insurance fund, in line with existing legislative risk management provisions.
Each enterprise will be eligible for a maximum of €50,000 over a three-year period, in accordance with EU regulations.
Payments expected soon
According to the ministry, payments are expected to be issued in the coming period once all required procedures are completed.
The scheme is designed to stabilise the agricultural sector and assist farmers in recovering from climate-related losses.
