Drunk driver causes crash in Limassol, 27-year-old woman hospitalised

A 27-year-old woman was injured in a road crash shortly after midnight on Friday, while a 23-year-old driver was arrested after testing positive for alcohol above the legal limit.

The collision occurred at around 12.50am on Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue in Limassol, at the junction with Marinou Geroulanou and Georgiou Averof streets.

Three people injured in collision

According to police, the 23-year-old was driving towards the junction when his car collided with a vehicle driven by the 27-year-old woman. A 62-year-old woman and a 14-year-old were also travelling in her car.

The 27-year-old sustained a broken arm and was taken to hospital, where she was admitted for treatment.

The 62-year-old woman and the 14-year-old suffered minor injuries. They received first aid and were discharged.

Driver arrested after alcohol test

Police said the 23-year-old driver underwent an alcohol test, which returned a final reading of 75 micrograms, compared with the legal limit of 22 micrograms.

He was subsequently arrested.

The Limassol Traffic Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
