Drunk bus driver in Larnaca arrested with pupils on board

Date:

Traffic police in Larnaca arrested a 58-year-old bus driver this morning after he was found driving under the influence with pupils among the passengers.

At around 6:45am, officers stopped a public service bus on the Avdellero–Athienou road. Checks revealed that the bus was carrying more passengers than legally permitted, with 54 people on board instead of the maximum 50. Among the passengers were school pupils.

A final breathalyser test showed an alcohol level of 63μg%, well above the legal limit of 9μg%.

The 58-year-old was arrested for flagrant offences and is expected to appear today before the Larnaca District Court for immediate filing of the case.

The incident has raised concern due to the presence of pupils on the bus at the time of the offence.
