Dromolaxia attempted murder: 22-Year-Old SYOP sent to trial after DNA link

A 22-year-old man, accused of attempting to murder a 47-year-old man on the morning of 31 July in the Dromolaxia Industrial Area, will face trial directly before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca, which convenes on 13 January 2026. The Larnaca District Court issued today’s referral.

Police said the District Court ordered the 22-year-old to remain in custody until the trial begins on 13 January.

According to the case file, the 47-year-old was riding his bicycle in the Dromolaxia Industrial Area on the morning of 31 July when an unknown person on a black motorcycle fired several shots at him. Police later confirmed the motorcycle had been stolen.

The 47-year-old escaped injury and immediately informed the Police.

Officers from the Larnaca Police Directorate and the Larnaca CID arrived at the scene and cordoned it off for examinations.

Members of the Police Forensic Service, MMAD, the Police Air Operations helicopter unit, and a drone from the Technological Development Department also joined the investigation.

Authorities collected various pieces of evidence from the scene for forensic testing.

Police arrested the 22-year-old on 17 November under a court warrant. During a search of his home, officers found and seized several items, including a loaded pistol.

The young man faces charges including attempted murder, illegal possession of an automatic weapon, illegal possession of explosives, theft, and handling stolen property.
