A 51-year-old driver is being treated at Nicosia General Hospital after being injured in a road collision that occurred yesterday in the Nicosia district. Tests revealed that the 51-year-old was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The collision took place at around 3 p.m. yesterday on Idaliou Street in Potamia, when the 51-year-old, under circumstances currently under investigation, lost control of the vehicle he was driving. As a result, the vehicle veered off course and struck two parked cars on the side of the road.
The 51-year-old was injured in the crash and was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors found he had suffered a ruptured spleen. He underwent surgery and was admitted for hospitalisation.
A breathalyser test showed a final reading of 107μg%, significantly above the legal limit of 22μg%.
The Pera Chorio Police Station is investigating the circumstances of the collision.
