Driver arrested for speeding on motorway at 180km/h

Date:

Police arrested a 42-year-old man on Monday night after he was caught speeding on the motorway at 180km/h on the Larnaca–Nicosia highway, significantly above the 100km/h speed limit.

According to a police announcement, the incident occurred at around 9.25pm on the Larnaca–Nicosia motorway near Lymbia, where traffic department officers stopped the vehicle for inspection. The driver was reportedly travelling at 180km/h instead of the permitted 100km/h.

The 42-year-old was arrested, taken to a police station and charged in writing before being released. He is expected to appear before the Nicosia district court today for immediate registration of the case.

The investigation into speeding on the motorway continues under the Peras Chorio police station, with officers stressing that excessive speed remains a major risk factor in collisions on Cyprus’ highways. Police continue targeted checks on major routes to curb dangerous driving, highlighting the ongoing need for compliance with traffic laws.
