Dnipro Russian strike kills four, injures 40 amid peace push

Date:

Russian missiles slammed into Dnipro, Ukraine’s industrial heartland, on Monday morning, killing four civilians and wounding 40 others, Ukrainian officials reported.

The Dnipro Russian strike hit during an intensified diplomatic drive to end the nearly four-year war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Paris on Monday, a day after his team met US officials.

Dnipropetrovsk acting governor Vladyslav Haivanenko posted on Telegram that 11 of the injured remain in serious condition. Search and rescue operations have ended.

Ukraine’s emergency services said the attack damaged car repair shops, businesses, an office building and 49 vehicles.

Vitalii Kovalenko worked in his garage when the missile struck. “Everyone dropped to the floor, then we checked on the employees. I ran upstairs and saw one guy covered in shrapnel, but thankfully all were alive,” he told reporters.

Telegram photos showed firefighters battling flames and rescuers carrying people on stretchers, including one body bag.

Dnipro and the surrounding region have endured repeated Russian missile and drone assaults that have killed civilians and wrecked housing, factories and power lines.

Russia offered no immediate comment on the Dnipro Russian strike.
