Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr. Nicodemos Damianou, travels to France on Monday where he will represent the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, at the AI Action Summit, which takes place on 10 and 11 February in Paris.

The summit brings together heads of state and government and government officials from over 90 countries, leaders of international organisations, executives from the world’s largest technology companies, as well as representatives from academia, civil society and non-governmental organisations, a Deputy Ministry press release said here today.
As stated, the discussions will focus on the rapid development of artificial intelligence, as well as the need to intensify international cooperation to ensure a safe, reliable, and accessible artificial intelligence in the service of humanity.
In particular, the scope of the discussions focuses on providing access to independent, secure, and reliable AI to a wide range of users, developing AI that is more environmentally friendly, and ensuring global governance of AI that is effective and inclusive.
It is added that according to the French Presidency, “the Summit will reflect a balanced European approach to AI, combining support for innovation, an appropriate regulatory framework and respect for rights to ensure the development of these technologies in the interest of all, including developing countries”.
It is also noted that Cyprus is an active part of this international effort, which focuses on both addressing the multiple challenges and exploiting the opportunities arising from the rapid development of AI around the world.
The AI Taskforce was established in this context, the purpose of which is to promote the development, integration and wider and more effective use of AI in Cyprus, with the aim of strengthening the economy, ensuring competitiveness and improving the quality of life of citizens, it is further noted.
The Deputy Minister will also participate in a Ministerial Working Meeting with Ministers of the EU Member States, in the presence of the European Commissioner for Technological Independence, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, after which he will depart for Dubai, where he will participate in the World Government Summit, taking place between 11-13 February, the press release concludes.
