Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias is travelling to Cyprus to participate in the informal meeting of European Union defence ministers in Nicosia.
On Sunday evening, Dendias is scheduled to attend a working dinner with his EU counterparts ahead of the ministerial discussions.
During Monday’s informal meeting, defence ministers are expected to discuss existing and emerging security challenges, the latest developments regarding Ukraine, and issues relating to maritime security and freedom of navigation.
A working lunch will follow, during which ministers will exchange views on the defence aspects of the European Union’s emerging Security Strategy. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening the EU’s defence readiness, enhancing the Union’s contribution to the European pillar of NATO, improving decision-making mechanisms and advancing the operational implementation of Article 42(7) of the Treaty on European Union, the mutual assistance clause.
As part of his visit to Cyprus, Dendias will also be received on Monday afternoon by Nikos Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace.
He is also scheduled to meet Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus at the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus.
