The trial of three men accused of murdering Stavros Demosthenous on 17 October 2025 began on Monday morning, with the submission of agreed facts.

The three defendants, a 31-year-old man and two 28-year-old men, appeared before the Permanent Criminal Court in Limassol, where the prosecution and defence submitted agreed facts relating to 17 witness statements.

Proceedings will resume on 2 November. Until then, all three defendants will remain on remand at the Central Prisons.

Defendants face premeditated murder charges

The defendants face charges including premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession, transportation and use of a firearm, and unlawful possession, transportation and use of explosives.

The 31-year-old is alleged to have driven the van from which the shots were fired.

One of the 28-year-olds is believed to have been the gunman who killed Demosthenous, while the other is alleged to have driven the perpetrators away in a car after they abandoned a motorcycle.

Charges against three others previously suspended

Charges against three other individuals, two aged 30 and one aged 51, were suspended during earlier proceedings.

One of the 30-year-olds had been charged only with stealing a vehicle believed to have been used in planning the murder of Stavros Demosthenous.

Following his immediate admission of guilt, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
