Defence Minister receives Kalo Chorio firing range fire report, vows accountability

Date:

The disciplinary investigation report into the fire, which broke out at the Kalo Chorio firing range on 27 July 2026, has been submitted to Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas.

The minister announced that the report was handed to him by the Commander of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, and examines the circumstances and causes that led to the outbreak of the fire.

No further comment while investigation continues

Palmas said he will now study the findings in detail but will not make any further public comments while the Cyprus Police’s criminal investigation remains ongoing.

He stressed that respect for the legal process and the need to safeguard the integrity of the investigation prevent any public discussion of matters currently under examination.

Criminal investigation nearing completion

The Defence Minister said any responsibilities identified will be addressed in accordance with the law once the criminal investigation has concluded and all evidence has been assessed.

According to Palmas, the police investigation report is expected to be submitted to the Law Office during the coming week.
