Death of paramotor pilot caused by multiple injuries

Date:

The death of Antonis Kourras, aged 31, from the village of Anagyia in the Nicosia district, has been attributed to multiple injuries to the body and vital organs, after he lost control of his motorised paraglider while flying in the Kiti area.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Friday at the Nicosia General Hospital by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou. According to police, the cause of death was determined to be “multiple injuries to the body and vital organs.”

It is recalled that at around 8:30am on Thursday, 21 August, two individuals were each flying their own motorised paragliders (paramotor gliders)—a type of glider with a petrol-powered engine and rear propeller—in the coastal area of Parasolia, Kiti.

Under circumstances still being investigated, one of the two pilots lost control of his glider while flying at low altitude above the sea, resulting in a crash onto rocks near the beach.
