Dali arrest after jewellery, knives and drugs found

A 34-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday in Dali after police discovered jewellery, knives and a quantity of suspected drugs in his possession.

According to a police statement, members of the Perachorio Police Station received information shortly before 1.30am about a suspicious person in an area of Dali, in the Nicosia district. Officers went to the scene for investigations and located the man in a public park, where he was stopped for a check.

Jewellery and bank cards seized

During the search, police found a number of items in the 34-year-old’s possession, including jewellery such as silver earrings, a ring, neck chains and crosses, as well as a women’s wristwatch. Officers also discovered several bank cards issued in the names of five other individuals.

The seized property is being examined to determine whether it is stolen.

Knives, tools and suspected drugs

Police also located two knives and offensive weapons, burglary tools, as well as approximately five grams of a crystalline substance believed to be drugs.

The man was arrested for a number of offences committed in flagrante delicto, including unlawful possession of property, possession of burglary tools, carrying knives, possession of offensive weapons and possession of drugs.

Investigations ongoing

The 34-year-old was placed in police custody to assist with investigations. The Perachorio Police Station and the Nicosia branch of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) are continuing inquiries.
