Cyprus delivered one of its strongest performances at the Commonwealth Games, securing 12 medals at Glasgow, including one gold, five silver and six bronze medals.
The Cyprus Commonwealth Games team finished 14th on the overall medal table, recording the country’s second-best medal haul in the history of its participation at the event.
The Games marked Cyprus’ 12th appearance at the Commonwealth Games, following its debut at the 1978 edition.
36 athletes represented Cyprus
The Cypriot delegation consisted of 36 athletes, including 23 men and 13 women, competing across five sports.
High jumper Elena Kulichenko carried the Cyprus flag during the opening ceremony, while para powerlifter Maria Markou served as the team’s baton bearer.
The delegation also included 29 officials supporting the athletes throughout the competition.
Cyprus athletes competed in artistic gymnastics, athletics, judo, swimming, weightlifting and para powerlifting.
Judo and gymnastics lead medal success
Judo was the most successful sport for Cyprus, contributing six medals, including the country’s only gold medal of the Games.
Giannis Antoniou won gold in the men’s +100kg category on 2 August.
Silver medals were secured by Sofia Asvesta in women’s 52kg judo and Georgios Balarjishvili in men’s 66kg judo.


Petros Christodoulides, Odysseas Georgakis, Georgios Kroussaniotakis and Zanet Michaelidou added bronze medals in judo events.




Artistic gymnastics also played a key role in Cyprus’ medal performance.
Marios Georgiou claimed two silver medals in the men’s parallel bars and horizontal bar events, while Neofytos Kyriakou won bronze in the men’s vault.


Athletics adds further medals
Cyprus also achieved notable results in athletics.
Iosif Kesidis won silver in the men’s hammer throw, while Milan Trajkovic secured bronze in the men’s 110m hurdles.
The overall medal tally represented a significant achievement for Cyprus, highlighting strong performances across multiple disciplines at the Glasgow Games.
