Cyprus welcomes Israel-Lebanon ceasefire agreement

Date:

Cyprus welcomes the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Wednesday, expressing the conviction that this development marks the first step towards de-escalation in the wider region.

The ceasefire agreement’s full implementation “is of paramount importance for the security of Lebanese and Israeli citizens and will allow the return of displaced persons along the Blue Line,” the Ministry said in a press release.

“The sovereignty of both Lebanon and Israel must be fully respected,” it noted.

Cyprus recognises “the systematic mediation efforts of the United States of America and France, which have been instrumental in this very important development.”

“We express our conviction that this development marks the first step towards de-escalation in the wider region. Cyprus fully supports efforts in this direction,” the Ministry concluded.
