Dust and low pressure expected
Cyprus weather remains under weak high pressure, but conditions are set to change as low pressure moves in over the weekend. According to the Meteorology Department, dust will also affect the area, with concentrations at times increasing.
Today’s outlook
Today, periods of increased cloud cover are expected, with a chance of isolated, mainly light rain over mountainous and western areas. Winds will blow mainly south-westerly to westerly, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and locally very strong at 5 to 6 Beaufort. The sea will be rough.
Temperatures will rise to around 20°C inland and along the coast, and 9°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight brings cooler conditions
Tonight, locally increased cloud cover will continue, with a chance of isolated light rain in the mountains and western regions. Winds will shift to south-westerly, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and at times locally strong along the coast at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slight to rough.
Temperatures will drop to 9°C inland, around 11°C along the coast, and 3°C in the higher mountains, where frost may form in some areas.
Weekend weather turns unsettled
On Saturday, Cyprus weather will feature increased medium and high cloud.
By Sunday, conditions will turn mostly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. However, a noticeable improvement in weather is expected from the afternoon onwards.
On Monday, the weather will be partly cloudy, with a slight chance of isolated showers.
Temperature trend and snow levels
Temperatures will rise slightly on Saturday, remaining above average for the season. However, a gradual and noticeable drop is expected on Sunday and Monday.
Snow depth at Chionistra stood at 24cm at the time of the report.
