Cyprus weather forecast: Showers before heat returns

Date:

The Cyprus weather forecast remains unsettled on Wednesday, with isolated rain and thunderstorms expected before conditions improve and temperatures begin to climb from Thursday.

An unstable air mass affecting the region is expected to retreat from Thursday, bringing mostly clear conditions through the end of the week.

Showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday

Wednesday will initially be mostly clear, but cloud developing around midday and in the early afternoon is expected to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly over the mountains and inland areas.

Winds will initially be light and variable at 3 Beaufort, gradually becoming mainly south-westerly to north-westerly at 3 to 4 Beaufort. They could temporarily strengthen to 4 to 5 Beaufort along windward coastal areas.

The sea will be slight to locally moderate.

Temperatures will reach 35°C inland, around 31°C along the western and south-western coasts, 32°C along the remaining coasts and 25°C in the higher mountains.

Mostly clear overnight

Wednesday night will be mostly clear, although increased local cloud is expected across the western half of the island.

Winds will blow mainly from the west to north-west at 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the sea will remain slight to locally moderate.

Temperatures will fall to 22°C inland, around 23°C along the coast and 15°C in the higher mountains.

Temperatures climb from Thursday

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are forecast to be mostly clear as the unstable air mass moves away from the region.

Temperatures will rise noticeably and gradually through Friday before remaining largely unchanged on Saturday.

The warmer conditions will push temperatures above seasonal averages, marking a shift in the weather forecast after the recent spell of unsettled conditions.
