Rain, isolated thunderstorms and strong winds make up today’s weather conditions across Cyprus, as a weak high-pressure system affects the region.
Unsettled conditions today
Today, the weather will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers expected at first. A brief, isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, mainly over the western half of the island. Winds will blow mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and locally strong to very strong at 5 to 6 Beaufort.
The sea conditions will vary by area: slightly rough to rough in the east, rough in the south, and rough to very rough along the western and northern coasts.
Temperatures will rise to around 18°C inland, about 20°C along the coast, and 6°C in the higher mountainous areas.
Mostly clear overnight
Tonight, the weather will become mostly clear. Winds will turn mainly north-westerly, light and at times locally moderate, at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough, and locally rough on windward coasts.
Temperatures will drop to around 7°C inland, about 10°C on the southern and eastern coasts, around 12°C on the western and northern coasts, and down to 2°C in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.
Outlook for the rest of the week
On Wednesday, the weather will remain mostly clear. On Thursday, periods of increased cloud cover are expected. By Friday, local rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Friday and will remain slightly above the average seasonal values.
