Date:

Hot conditions with isolated afternoon showers

Temperatures across Cyprus are expected to reach around 37°C inland today, while isolated showers or thunderstorms may develop later in the day, mainly over the mountains and possibly in some inland areas.

The Department of Meteorology says most areas will enjoy mainly clear skies, although increasing cloud during the afternoon could trigger isolated rain or thunderstorms.

Warm inland, cooler along the coast

Temperatures will climb to around 37°C inland, 29°C along the west coast, around 32°C on the remaining coastal areas and 26°C in the highest mountains.

Winds will initially be light southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening along the coast during the afternoon to moderate or strong, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort and locally strong.

The sea will be calm to slightly rough in the east and generally slightly rough elsewhere.

Clear tonight and stable through midweek

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear with light west to northwesterly winds at 3 Beaufort, occasionally increasing to 3 to 4 Beaufort.

Overnight temperatures will fall to around 22°C inland and along the coast, and to 16°C in the highest mountain areas.

On Tuesday, mainly clear conditions will continue, although isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms are again expected over the mountains.

Wednesday and Thursday will remain mostly sunny with occasional increased cloud.

Temperatures are expected to remain at similar levels through Thursday, continuing to stay slightly above the seasonal average.
