Weak high pressure is affecting the region, but a low pressure system from the south is expected to influence Cyprus weather on Saturday, bringing clouds, dust and possible rain across the island.
Dust will remain suspended in the atmosphere, with concentrations expected to increase at times from Friday onwards, according to the forecast.
Clouds increase after midday
Today the Cyprus weather will be mostly clear at first, but increased cloud cover is expected after midday, mainly over the mountains and the south-west.
Winds will blow north-easterly to easterly, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough in the west and slightly rough to rough along the rest of the coast.
Temperatures will rise to around 20°C inland, about 22°C on the coasts and around 10°C in the higher mountains.
Clear tonight with frost in mountains
Tonight the weather will remain mostly clear. Winds will blow mainly north to north-east, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and occasionally moderate locally.
The sea will be slightly rough in the west and south and slightly rough to rough in the remaining coastal areas.
Temperatures will drop to around 6°C inland, near 10°C on the coast and close to 2°C in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.
Rain possible Friday, unsettled Saturday
On Friday, increased high clouds will appear, while developing cloud later in the day may bring isolated light rain, mainly over the mountains and areas south of Troodos.
On Saturday, Cyprus weather will turn cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms expected.
On Sunday, increased cloud mainly after midday may give isolated showers or thunderstorms, especially over the mountains and the eastern half of the island.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly on Friday, but a drop is forecast on Saturday, bringing values close to seasonal averages. A slight rise is expected again on Sunday.
