The aim of the memorandum is to promote the broader and more effective use of AI, as a pillar of growth and of fast-tracking digital economy, but also of improving the quality of life of citizens of both countries, a Deputy Ministry press release said here on Thursday.
In particular, the memorandum creates “important opportunities for the exchange of best practices, the promotion of joint research activities and research and innovation projects, fast-tracking the adoption of AI in both the public and private sectors, as well as fostering the development skills which will contribute in building a stronger AI ecosystem in Cyprus and the UAE”, it adds.
Thanking his counterpart for the hospitality and his commitment in deepening cooperation between the two countries, Damianou said that “the foundations for an even stronger, more concrete, more effective relationship are been layed, which will promote innovation and growth and will offer solutions to common socio-economic challenges.”
With AI being at the core of technological progress, the Deputy Minister pointed, “international cooperation, particularly with states who are leaders in the sector, such as UAE, is of vital importance to ensure that AI is being developed, used effectively and responsibly.”
This memorandum, he added, “reflects our joint commitment to make the most of AI as a key pilar of growth, for the benefit of our economies, our industries and our citizens.”
“I believe that this is a cooperation which has the possibility to become a regional effort for joint initiatives, which makes the most on the one hand of Cyprus’ geostrategic position and geopolitical significance and on the other the UAE’s technological leadership, from whom we have much to learn.”
On his part, the UAE Minister referred to the significance of the strategic cooperation, adding that the UAE continue to build global cooperation bridges, promoting the exchange of know-how and fast-tracking digital innovation.
These partnerships, he noted, “reflect the aims and the vision of the WGS 2025 summit itself on the importance of enhancing international cooperation, as well as the the UAE’s position as a global innovation hub in the field of AI, and contribute decisively in building a sustainable future based on advanced technologies.”
