Isolated rain and possible thunderstorms are forecast for parts of Cyprus on Thursday afternoon, while winds could locally become very strong, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The weather will initially be mostly clear, although increased cloud cover is expected locally. During the afternoon, isolated rain is forecast, with a thunderstorm also possible, mainly over the mountains, inland areas and the southeast.
Weak low pressure is affecting the region.
Winds could reach 6 Beaufort
Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest, initially light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. They will gradually strengthen to moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching very strong levels of 6 Beaufort.
The sea will be slight to rough.
Temperatures will rise to around 31C inland and along the southern and eastern coasts, around 29C on the remaining coasts and around 22C in the higher mountains.
Clearer conditions overnight
Tonight, conditions will gradually become mostly clear. Winds will remain mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light and temporarily moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort.
The sea will be up to slight, while temperatures will fall to around 18C inland, 20C on the coast and 12C in the higher mountains.
Mostly clear weekend ahead
The weather on Friday and throughout the weekend will be mostly clear, although locally increased cloud cover is expected at times.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly and will remain close to the seasonal average.
