Cyprus president travels to Canada to attract Canadian investments

Date:

President Nikos Christodoulides departs this morning for Toronto, Canada, as part of efforts to attract Canadian investments and promote the Republic of Cyprus as a reliable destination. Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed the trip in a written statement.

He noted that the visit follows the president’s recent trip to the United States, also aimed at securing high-quality investments for Cyprus.

In Canada, Christodoulides will attend an event organised by members of the Cypriot communities of Toronto on Thursday evening.

On Friday, he will meet Prem Watsa, founder, chairman and CEO of Fairfax. Later the same day, he will take part in a roundtable discussion with leading entrepreneurs and investors in finance, research, innovation, and real estate development.

That evening, Christodoulides will also join a roundtable discussion and working dinner co-organised by the France Canada Chamber of Commerce (FCCCO), with the participation of senior executives from major member companies.

Letymbiotis added that Cyprus today presents itself as a dynamic and resilient economy, with high growth rates, strong public finances, record-low unemployment, and an upgraded credit rating in Category A by all major international rating agencies — factors that inspire confidence among global investors.

“As a full EU member state and thanks to its strategic location, Cyprus offers a unique environment for investment and regional operations,” he said.

The president will be accompanied by Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, the government spokesman, Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, Invest Cyprus chairman Evgenios Evgeniou, and other officials.

Christodoulides will leave Toronto for New York on 20 September, Letymbiotis concluded.
