Cyprus Police launches campaign for alcochol and drug tests

Date:

Cyprus Police start a new campaign today. It focuses on awareness and enforcement. Officers will detect alcohol in drivers’ breath. They will also test for drugs in saliva samples.

The campaign runs from Monday, December 15, 2025. It lasts until Sunday, December 21, 2025.

European cooperation

Authorities conduct the campaign at the same time across Europe. It falls under cooperation with the European Road Traffic Police Network, Roadpol.

Statistics and risks

From 2022 to 2024, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causes many fatal crashes in Cyprus. It accounts for 23.3% of cases. Reckless driving follows at 21.4%.

A significant portion of all road deaths in the European Union links directly to alcohol-impaired driving.

Drug use reduces mental and psychological effort while driving. It lowers driver performance. This increases the risk of road collisions.
